Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Presiding: President Elect Colombo called the meeting to order at 0710 HRS.

Board members present: Pres. Elect, David Colombo; Treasurer, Jim Barger Secretary, Jim Varley;

Directors: Johnnye Luebkemann (until 9/08) and D. Faust (Until 9/09).

Committee Chairs: B. Bull (AKtion), R. Ziegler (Key), D. Colombo (Comm./Senior), (Golf-VACANT), and G. Sweat (Membership).

Other Members present: E. Al Eppinger.

Minutes of the 20AUG08 meeting were reviewed and approved.

Treasurer’s Report was read and approved/disapproved: Jim Barger reported the following balances:

ADMIN: $2231.15, FOUNDATION: $15511.55, FOUNDATION CD: $10456.33,

TOTAL: $28,199.03. An additional $400 has been received since report was printed.

OLD BUSINESS:

Football luncheon is 07OCT08 at The Silver Slipper. Nine (9) tickets are still available.

Miracle Field - Contributions are coming in well, and we should achieve our $10K goal easily.

Officers – The following officers for 2008-09 were reported via Kiwanis One Portal on 15MAY08, President: Colombo; President Elect: Barger; Treasurer: Barger; Secretary: Eppinger, and Membership: Sweat.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Gretchen Everhart playground Gazebo and fish projects are moving forward. Chair absent.

Golf Committee needs to be re-formed soon.

Key Club is active and meeting twice monthly. The first meeting is at noon in # 212 (Ms. Eikland’s room) and the 2^nd meeting is after school in the lunch pavilion. New members are required to bring canned foods for the Club’s first project and $11.00 dues as pre-requisites to membership.

Killearn Kiwanis membership meeting is tomorrow, 18SEP08. All are encouraged to bring prospective members, and Sweat will have a special membership presentation. Waiving of initiation fee for new members joining this last month of SEP08 was discussed and not adopted by the board.

DeSoto Trail and Gilchrist K-Kids programs are moving along. Funds have been sent to Kiwanis Int’l for starting that K-Kids Club. Killearn Kiwanis has purchased recycle bins, too.

The subject of reducing meeting frequency to entice new members was discussed and not adopted.

AKtion Club annual banquet is scheduled for the first Thursday of October, 02OCT08. AKtion Club conference was cancelled due to hurricane weather. A mini conference with be held as make-up on 04OCT08. AKtion Club conducted a very successful dog wash 13SEP08.

NEW BUSINESS:

Jay Hurst has petitioned for Leave of Absence status or to resign if necessary due to severe personal and financial problems. His dues are in arrears. Board decided to terminate his membership effective 30JUL08 without prejudice. Secretary will send letter to Mr. Hurst advising him of board action.

Marvin Doyal is in Leave of Absence status since 01JAN08. Board decided to extend his leave of absence until 31DEC08. Secretary will send an E Mail to inform Mr. Doyal of the board’s decision.
