Documentation will be completed upon the return of the secretary.
ANNOUNCEMENTS/PROJECTS:
1. Post Office/Undeliverables. Ziegler picked up a batch and gave most of it to Luebkeman for Refuge House. Discussion followed.
2. K-Kids @ DeSoto Trails, Gilchrist Schools. Need funding of about $150 for each school. There also is need for some (additional) funding for a charter event, e.g. a lunch, at each school. We need to get a Charter Document approved. Motion was made, seconded, and approved by the board to provide funding for the above.
3. Miracle Field. Jim Wylie updated the board. Approximately $50,000 is lacking to complete funding of this project and the responsibility to develop these funds is to be divided up amongst the 6 Kiwanis Clubs of Leon County. Sandco is major contractor and C.W. Roberts is paving contractor. Both are providing some level of in-kind donor support. Wylie has a list of some 100+ corporate sponsors to solicit from and is looking for more corporate sponsors. Different signage will credit different levels of donors. Grants are in process with no known progress. We will wait until next board meeting to decide whether or not to commit our foundation funds to this project. Hand-Out.
4. Gretchen Everhart (GE) Project. Esher visited Ken Hamilton, GE principal. It was moved, seconded, and approved by the board to erect a fish in the playground similar to the one at Florida High. Ken Hamilton also asked about our erecting a gazebo type structure for the older and more mobile students. Esher provided 2 estimates of $3400 and $5700 to purchase a pre-fab gazebo. It was moved, seconded, and approved by the board to authorize Esher to explore cost of some other possibilities for this project to include a do-it-yourself approach.
5. Killearn Home Owners’ Association Park. This project was left dormant for lack of further definitive information.
6. Dictionary Project. Nancy Shanks is the chair for the Division. She advised at DCM on 14JUL08 that each club in Division 3 would be dunned $400.00 each to pay for this project for every 3rd grade student in our Division area. It was moved, seconded, and approved by the board to approve an increase in funding to $400.00 and to send these funds to Ms. Shanks immediately. Distribution of the dictionaries in September and using our new K-Kids clubs to assist us is the wish of the Board members.
7. Ralph Davis House.
Two work days: 26JUL08 (Pressure Wash house and yard clean-up) and 02AUG08 (paint and continued yard clean-up). There is a cook-out and pantry party scheduled for 6 PM, 04SEP08. Foods are to be donated by attendees to help stock the pantry for the students. Our Killearn Kiwanis Club will also complete other projects, e.g. painting bathrooms, on days other than the above scheduled dates/times
