Chuck Walters had E Mailed all members a plea from a friend, Pastor Greg Roberts, for donations to re-build a parishioners house struck by a recent tornado. (See ATT to hard copy.)The board discussed this idea and decided to brief the general membership at tomorrow’s weekly meeting and ask for individual ad libitum donations form the members versus a club donation.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: 22OCT08 is the Grand Opening of the Miracle Field. President Ryor has a list of all corporate contacts to be approached for donations to the Miracle Field that he will send to all members. K Kids is moving forward and Al Eppinger is looking for assistance with those programs starting up at DeSoto Trails and Gilchrist. We received a thank you note from Jim Wylie for our club’s assistance with the Davis House. The Southern Scholarship golf tournament is tomorrow (if Hurricane Fay doesn’t strike.) The Nuzum family designated Kiwanis Charities as the recipient of any donations in memoriam of Charles Nuzum. To date there has been some $535.00 donated. It was also suggested that all memorial donations in honor of Charles Nuzum be maintained in a separate endowment and use the proceeds for a named trophy at our annual golf tournament. Board agreed to this idea. Richard Ziegler stated that Chiles HS has named 2 teachers to be faculty advisors for the Chiles Key Club: Ms. Eikland and Ms. Gonsolves. Big Bend Hospice has requested assistance with staffing the Tree of Remembrance over the Christmas Holiday. Charles Esher had no further news regarding the gazebo at Gretchen Everhart School. Jim Wylie will meet with WalMart staff regarding donations to the Miracle Field. Miracle Field Luncheon is scheduled for 07OCT08. Killearn Kiwanis will purchase 2 tables, i.e. 16 places at that luncheon out of Foundation Funds. The Board discussed skipping our regular weekly meeting that week. It was moved, seconded and passed to conduct the regular meeting that week as scheduled.
Al Eppinger advised that the Tallahassee Club will
discontinue its sponsorship of the annual Civic Club Luncheon at the
Fair Grounds. Discussion surrounded continuing an annual Kiwanis Club
Annual Luncheon in its place with proceeds going to Miracle Field or
whatever the current needs are.
There was discussion about further donations to the Miracle Field.
Charley Esher moved to ask the general membership for individual
donations and the Killearn Kiwanis Club Foundation would match those
donations. The motion was seconded and passed by the Board.
